Introduction to CE Marking

To compete in today's global marketplace, manufacturers are beginning to export more goods to Europe. Before doing so, however, many companies must obtain CE marking, which allows them to move their products freely throughout the European Economic Area. CE marking is required on products that fall within the scope of any of the European Union's New Approach Directives.

"CE" is an abbreviation of the French phrase "CONFORMITE EUROPEENNE". CE marking on a product is the manufacturer's assertion that the product complies with the essential/safety requirements of relevant European regulations.

Now every product that falls under the scope of these directives and is placed in the European market has to be CE Marked

Why CE marking?

The European CE certification procedure has been mainly set up to:

1. Harmonize all varying national regulations for consumer and industrial products in European Member States, so that the Single Market is encouraged;

2. Bring about cost savings for producers;

3. Enhance the safety of products;

4. Supply public bodies with a uniform procedure that can be checked.
